Louis L. Wright, 101, of Carthage, passed away at 8:15 AM, Tuesday morning, October 11, 2022, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
Louis was born February 28, 1921, the son of Frank and Rowena Mae (Dye) Wright in the farmhouse where he grew up in east of Carthage. He graduated from Carthage High School and then attended a year of college at the University of Illinois. On September 25, 1943, he was united in marriage to Maurine M. Gardiner in Ferris, Illinois. She preceded him in death in 2003.
Louis was a life-long farmer and was awarded the FFA American Farmer Degree in 1941. He was an active member of the Beef Association and was especially involved in 4-H throughout his life, serving as a 4-H leader for many years. Louis was also an active community member serving on various boards including the Hancock County Board and the Carthage School Board. He was an avid fisherman and coon hunter as well. He had attended both the First Presbyterian Church and the First Christian Church (DOC) in Carthage.
Louis is survived by four children, Dorothy Ann “Dotty” Oelklaus of Quincy, John Franklin (Connie) Wright of Carthage, Carol Joyce (David) Quenett of Genoa, and Nancy Lou (James) Diefenback of Springfield; grandchildren, Julia (Jeff) Pearson, Rachel (Eric) McCoy, Melissa (Matt) Fantz, Steven (Rachel) Quenett, Andrew (Elaine) Quenett and Crystal (Mark) Grismer; and fourteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maurine; four sisters; and son-in-law, Steve Oelklaus.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with Pastor David Poland officiating. Burial will follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until time of services at 2:00 PM at the funeral home on Saturday. Memorials may be directed to Hancock County 4-H Buildings and Grounds or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
