Charles “Charlie” Welsh

1946-2022

 

     Charles “Charlie” Welsh, 76 of Montrose, IA died Friday, October 7, 2022 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

     He was born April 7, 1946 in Keokuk, IA the oldest son of Floren Richard and Marjorie Kimball Welsh.  Charlie graduated from Central Lee High School with the class of 1964.

     On December 29, 1979 Charlie was united in marriage to Mary Fichtenkort in Keokuk.  She survives.

     Other survivors include two step-sons, Scott Artzen (Lauren) of Davis, CA and Jeffry Artzen of Keokuk, four step-grandchildren, Jacob Artzen (Evelyn), Emma Artzen, Clara Artzen and Alex Artzen and one great grandchild, Finneas.  He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Jeanne Welsh of Montrose, IA and Nellie Welsh of Argyle, IA.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Gary and John Welsh and one sister-in-law, Barb Welsh.

     Charlie had been employed as an over the road truck driver and drove for several companies including DOT and Walmart.

     Charlie enjoyed collecting beer steins.  He had a large collection of over four hundred steins.  He also enjoyed traveling and never missed an opportunity to take off on an adventure. 

     Charlie lived in the Montrose/Keokuk area his whole life and was widely known.  Charlie was always friendly and willing to spend a minute or two with anyone who wanted to talk.  His smile and kindness will be greatly missed.

      A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Montrose, IA with the family meeting with friends at that time.
