Duane Sherman Hubbard

Duane Sherman Hubbard, 96, of Algonquin, formerly of Carthage, passed away at the Clarendale Retirement Center on Thursday, September 29, 2022, at 7:30 AM.

Duane was born February 19, 1926, the son of Walter L. and Bessie (Blythe) Hubbard on their farm north of Adrian, Illinois.  He graduated from Colusa High School in 1944 and on May 2, 1948, was united in marriage to Irene Opie in Colusa.  She survives.  Duane had worked for Rampley’s Service for 38 years and had also farmed until the age of 89.  He was a member of the First Christian Church (DOC) in Carthage, the Masonic Lodge and the Quincy Consistory.

Duane was a man characterized by his happy nature.  He loved his family
and spent time taking his children and grandchildren on vacations to
every corner of America.  He was a fixer of all things mechanical and he
was the happiest when he was farming his beautiful 80 acres.  His
encouragement, love, and advice will be sorely missed by his family.
Duane was an avid Cubs fan and he was elated when they finally won the
World Series for him.  He also was a man of faith and served his church
well as a deacon, an elder, and a member of the choir.  His voice was
beautiful and he sang with conviction.

Duane is survived by his wife, Irene, of Algonquin; his son, Dick (Robin) Hubbard of Crystal Lake, Illinois; a daughter, Kathy (Brad) Owen of Stillman Valley, Illinois; grandchildren, Matthew (Kelly) Hubbard, Sarah (Ben) Schulman, Zachary (Andrea) Owen, and Meghan (Aaron) Owen-Souza; and great grandchildren, Gretchen and Ava Hubbard and Harry, Goldie and Franny Schulman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Dwight, Lowell, Raymond and Byard; and a sister, Lola Mannhardt.

Funeral services will be held at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 11:00 AM with burial to follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage.  Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 7:00 Pm. at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with family meeting friends from 5:00 – 7:00.  Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church (DOC) of Carthage.  Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
