Robert L. Gerhardt

Robert L. Gerhardt, 58, of Sutter, passed away at his home Sunday, September 4, 2022.

 

Robert was born April 29, 1964, the son of Robert Gene and Lucille Irene (Gooding) Gerhardt in Quincy, Illinois.  He attended Warsaw High School graduating in 1982.  He then obtained his Associate’s Degree from Carl Sandburg College, and then his B.S. and Master’s Degrees in Agronomy from the University of Illinois. On October 17, 1987, he was united in marriage to Cheryl Mathewson at the Sutter Salem Bible Church.  Robert was a devout Christian and a member of Sutter Salem Bible Church, where he served as an Elder and Sunday School teacher for many years.  

 

Robert had a variety of jobs over the years, but always had the most joy from working on his family’s farm. He also worked at Ayrshire Land Company in Vermont, Illinois and Brazil, Indiana, for 8 years after graduating college. He then became a Chemical Process Engineer for Roquette America in Keokuk for over 22 years and at J.M. Huber in Quincy for the last 4 years. 

 

Robert is survived by his wife, Cheryl, of Mendon, Illinois; children, Alyssa (Joe) Craven of New Berlin, Illinois, Aaron Gerhardt of Sutter, Alayna (Kallin) Crile of Perry, Oklahoma and Alicyn Gerhardt of Carbondale, Illinois; grandson James Robert Craven and another Craven grandson on the way; his father, Gene Gerhardt of Sutter; siblings, Rick (Teresa) Gerhardt of Sutter, Renee (Jeff) Connor of Tennessee, Illinois, Rachel Gerhardt of Hannibal, Rebekka Sigmund of Warsaw, Rueben Gerhardt and Roger Gerhardt, both of Sutter, and Rita Gerhardt of Keokuk; and a sister-in-law, Kathy Gerhardt of Michigan.

 

He was preceded in death by his mother; and one brother, Randy.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, September 8, 2022, at the Sutter Salem Bible Church near Sutter with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2:00 to 7:00 P.M. with family meeting friends from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M.  Memorials may be directed to Sutter Salem Bible Church or toward an agriculture scholarship to be established at a later date.  Printy Funeral Home of Warsaw is in charge of arrangements.
