Roberta L. Howes, 96, of Hamilton, passed away, Saturday, August 20, 2022, at
10:20 AM in her home.
Roberta was born January 13, 1926, the daughter of John E. and Alta May (Ward)
Foley in Gladstone, Illinois. She graduated from Argyle High School and went on
to receive her teaching degree from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
Following graduation, she taught with her sister in Argyle and New Boston. On
May 26, 1950, she was married to Gene H. Howes. After her children were raised,
she went back to teaching at St. Vincent’s in Keokuk, a career that lasted twenty
years. Roberta and Gene were V.F.W. members. They enjoyed many years
dancing on Saturday nights wherever there was live music. They enjoyed 72 years
of marriage and died within one day of one another.
Roberta was survived by her husband for one day. She is survived by a son, Doug
Howes of Hamilton; a daughter, Rhonda Fischer of Oakwood Hills, Illinois;
grandchildren, Ryan (Grace) Howes, Erin (Nathaniel) Slosson, Tyler (Lauren)
Fischer and Kendall (Marielle) Fischer; three great grandsons; two great
granddaughters; eleven nieces and nephews; a sister, Shirley Glover of Mt.
Pleasant, Iowa; and many cousins from the Ward and Foley families.
Roberta was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Earl Foley.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 8, 2022, at Printy
Funeral Home in Hamilton. Family will meet friends from 9:00 AM until time of
services at 11:00 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Sharon Cemetery
nearing Farmington, Iowa. Printy Funeral Home of Hamilton is in charge of
arrangements.
