Joshua William Heitman

1978 – 2022

 

     Joshua William Heitman, 44, of Keokuk, died Friday, July 29, 2022 at Blessing Health Keokuk.

     He was born on June 23, 1978 in Keokuk, the son of Terry and Susan (Amann) Heitman.  He graduated from Hamilton High School with the Class of 1997.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree from Western Illinois University.  He then attended Culver Stockton College in Canton, Mo and received his Teaching Degree.

     On December 26, 2006, Joshua was united in marriage to Cindy Graham Pollitt in Keokuk, IA. She survives.

     He is also survived by three sons, Jack, Erik and Mark Heitman of Keokuk, his step-son, Joshua Pollitt of Keokuk,  his mother, Susan Bolton (Greg) of Hamilton, IL his father, Terry Heitman (Sherry) of Hamilton, IL, one half-sister, Jessica Dowdall (Jeff) of Elvaston, IL, three step-brothers, Jason Runge, Brian Runge and Danny Bolton and many other extended family members.

     He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

     Joshua’s career as a history teacher began in Canton, MO where he also was the golf coach.  He then taught at Keokuk Christian Academy and currently was teaching at Burlington Notre Dame.

     He was of the Catholic faith.

     Joshua enjoyed weight lifting, riding his bike and watching football, especially the Chicago Bears.  He also enjoyed taking his dog, Izzy, to the park to run and spending time with his best friend, Chad.  Most of all Joshua loved his family.  His boys were the apple of his eye and one of his favorite things to do was to pull his kids in a wagon all over town.

     A Gathering of Remembrance will be held from 2 pm – 4 pm on Friday (Aug 5) at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with family meeting with friends at that time.

     Private family burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton, IL.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to P.A.W. Animal Shelter or Burlington Notre Dame School.
