Elizabeth “Betty” Steele Houston

1941 – 2022

 

     Elizabeth “Betty” Steele Houston, 80, of Quincy, IL formerly of Keokuk, died Sunday, July 24, 2022 at the Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

     She was born November 19, 1941 in Canton, MO the daughter of Thomas Fredrick and Kathryn Ruth Morton Price.

     She graduated from the Keokuk High School with the Class of 1960.

     On November 19, 1961, Elizabeth was united in marriage to Russell “Blackie” Steele, Jr. in Canton, MO. He preceded her in death on January 6, 1988.  She then married Lloyd Houston.  He preceded her in death.

     Elizabeth was employed at Ayerco in Alexandria, MO for over four years and then Lee County Home in Keokuk for over 13 years.

     When living in Keokuk she attended the Calvary Foursquare Church.  She enjoyed attending Bible studies and the fellowship.

     Elizabeth enjoyed listening to Christian music, working in her flower garden, and watching the sun rise, sun set and star gazing.  She enjoyed the beauty of rainbows and appreciating anything that God created.  The glistening of the sun on the water was like seeing diamonds on the water.

   She is survived by four daughters, Corrina Steele of Quincy, Rose Taylor (Timothy) of Alexander, ND, Marla Earnst of Quincy, and Tanya Steele-Bennett (Chris) of Quincy, eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by one sister, Edith Filz of Bowen, IL, two brothers, John Price of Eden Prairie, MN and Tom Price, Jr. of Hamilton, IL, along with many nieces and nephews.

     Besides her husbands, she was also preceded in death by one grandchild and one sister, Margaret Newberry.

     Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Dan Davis officiating.  Burial will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery.

     Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with family meeting with friends from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

     Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the family.
