Marileen L. Brown

Marileen L. Brown, 93, of Quincy, Illinois formerly of Basco, IL, passed away at 1:34 AM, Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

Marileen was born in Harmony Township December 20, 1928, the daughter of Tjark and Minnie (Garrelts) Huls. In 1929, she was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in April 1944, where she remained a member for the rest of her life. Marileen attended Excelsior school in rural Basco and graduated from Carthage High School in 1946. On October 24, 1947, she was united in marriage to Ira Brown in Keokuk, Iowa. Marileen worked as a secretary at the Farm Bureau Office in Carthage after graduation until her marriage. She then worked as a decorator for 40 years with her good friend and partner Marilyn Cameron in their business, M & M Interiors.

Marileen was a member of R.S.V.P.,a volunteer group at the hospital, the Red Hat Society, and helped the activity group at her church. She loved to play cards and belonged to a Pitch and Pinochle Club.

Marileen is survived by her son, James (Ramona) Brown of Carthage, Illinois, a daughter, Linda Shuman of Hamilton, Illinois; grandchildren, Tricia (Ted) Logan of Bloomington, Illinois   Lance (Stephanie) Brown of Tampa, Florida, Julie (David) Collins of Old Town, Florida,  and Amber (Craig) Horner of Keokuk, Iowa; sister-n-law Nancy Huls, eight great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marileen was preceded by her parents; her husband, Ira; a daughter, Judy Brown; her sisters, Erma Franzen and Betty Barnett; her brothers, Virgil Huls and Larry Huls; brother-in-laws, Dale Barnett, Richard Wachendorf and Dean Franzen; a sister-in-law, Minnie Huls; and a son-in-law, Harold Shuman.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 11, 2022, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Basco at 11:00 AM with burial to follow in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of the arrangements.
