Kathryn D. “Kay” Hamman, 97, of Carthage, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 11, 2022.
Kay was born July 26, 1924, the daughter of Henry and Alma (Kiesel) Johnson in Centralia, Illinois. She graduated from Gladbrook High School in Gladbrook, Iowa. While attending Carthage College, Kay met Elmer Hamman. On October 26, 1947, Kay and Elmer were married in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 2007. Kay loved being a farm wife and enjoyed leading a 4-H club for many years. She embraced the joy of loving her children and grandchildren; she was very pleased as they all became productive members of society. Kay was a member of New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk for many years, and was recently attending Ferris Christian Church. Kay was an avid rose gardener and was known as the “Rose Lady” at church and throughout the community. Kay blessed others through bountiful generosity and sharing many, many bouquets of roses.
Kay is survived by four children, Janice (Dennis) Bruns of Brimfield, Illinois, Stephen (Sandra) Hamman of Carthage, Sandra (Mark) Bernhard of Naperville, Illinois and Jeannine (Joseph) Stevenson of Burnside, Illinois; grandchildren, Tim (Janie) Bruns, Matt (Maia) Bruns, John (Sarah) Hamman, Dave (Mary) Hamman, Glen Hamman, Allison (Matt) Schramm, Joel (Sara) Bernhard, Austin Stevenson, Scott (Andrea) Stevenson and Lance (Elisabeth) Stevenson; and eighteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded by her parents; her husband, Elmer; a grandson, Dan Hamman; and her brother, Robert Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, February 17, 2022, at the Ferris Christian Church with burial to follow in Thornber Cemetery near Powellton. Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 7:00 Wednesday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with family meeting friends from 5:00 – 7:00. Memorials may be directed to Christ’s Freedom for Haiti, Ferris Christian Church or Thornber Cemetery. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of the arrangements.
