Martha “Louise” Riggens, 92, of Carthage, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2022, at Memorial Hospital in Carthage.
Louise was born March 30, 1929, the daughter of Maurice and Lora (Vanzandt) Scott at home on the old Scott homestead east of Liberty, IL. She went to grade school in Adams County. Louise moved to west of Plymouth where she attended all four years of high school in Plymouth, IL graduating in 1947. She was then united in marriage to Edward Riggens soon after high school. Louise helped with the family farm and worked part-time at Menn’s Firestone in Carthage. She enjoyed doing volunteer work through RSVP and at nursing homes. She also enjoyed the great outdoors and God’s wonderful creation. Her greatest passion was music, especially southern gospel music and old-time country music. Louise spent time ministering at nursing homes and churches playing guitar and singing with the Mt. Carmel music group. She loved to play the electric organ for church. Louise attended Colmar Christian Church after Oak Grove closed. She loved the Lord, her family, grand kids, and great grand kids which were her pride and joy.
Louise is survived by her three children; Linda (Dave) Watson of McKinney, TX, Larry (Jackie) Riggens of Carthage, IL, and Lonnie (Bonnie) Riggens of Carthage, IL; five grandchildren, Scott (Lisa) Watson, Ryan (Alicia) Watson, John (Cheryl) Predmore, Wendi (Travis) Riggens-Miller, and Cara (Travis) Sanderson; and fourteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward; brother, Russell Scott; and sister, Letha Clark.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 7:00 P.M. Tuesday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with family meeting friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be directed to LaMoine Christian Camp designated to camp scholarship. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
