Marilyn J. McMahan

Marilyn J. McMahan, 89, of Hamilton went to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, January 28, 2022, at 7:12 AM.

Marilyn was born May 4, 1932, in Keokuk, Iowa, the only child of Raymond H. and Mina Kate (Rosenboom) Wollbrink.  

She attended Oak Grove, a one room school, south of Elderville, first through eighth grades.  She graduated from Hamilton High School with the class of 1950.  

The week after graduation she started working at the State Central Savings Bank in Keokuk.  On September 2, 1951, Marilyn was united in marriage with her high school beau, John R. “Hap” McMahan and they were blessed with three children, Susan, Mark and Jon Michael.  

Marilyn went with her husband to Alabama while he was in the Army and worked for the J. I. Case Manufacturing Company in Anniston as a secretary from 1953 – 1955.  She later worked at Security State Bank in Hamilton for forty years retiring in 1995.  

Marilyn was a member of the Bethlehem Evangelical Church of Sutter from birth until her marriage.  In 1951 she became a member of the United Methodist Church where she has been since.  She taught Sunday school when her children were young, and she also served on the church council as treasurer.  Marilyn was a talented seamstress making many dresses for her little daughter.  She also made porcelain dolls and sewed beautiful outfits for them.  She loved her family with all her heart.   Marilyn and Hap’s grandchildren and great grandchildren were their pride and joy.  She very much enjoyed attending their activities and birthday parties.  Marilyn enjoyed sitting on their porch watching the St. Louis Cardinals, and all the birds and wildlife.  She loved to read and always had the Bible, or a book close by.  They wintered in Florida for many years after retirement and loved calls and visits from friends from other states and Canada in later years.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, John “Hap” McMahan of Hamilton; sons, Mark R. (Tracy) McMahan and their children, Jadelyn and Annalise, of Montevideo, Minnesota and Jon Michael (Lisa) McMahan and their children, Connor and Brooke of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren, Jennifer (Gregg) Blickhan and their children, Madison and Joey Cooper of Loraine, Illinois; Josh (Leann) Svejda and their children, Jonah and Levi of Keokuk, Jason (Kristen) Svejda and their children, Bennett and Autumn of Burlington, Iowa; brother-in-law, J. R. McMahan of Hamilton; seven nieces and two nephews and many cousins and friends.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; and her daughter, Susan K. Svejda.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday morning, February 2, 2022, at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton with burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until time of services at the funeral home.  Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church of Hamilton.  Printy Funeral Home of Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.
