David Lee Pence

David Lee Pence, 85, of LaHarpe, Illinois, passed away at 1:20PM Monday, October 25, 2021 at the Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst, Illinois.

 

David was born on May 28, 1936 in Lomax, Illinois, the son of Earnest “Woody” and Helen (Sherman) Pence. On September 15, 1957 he married Alice Cox in Lomax. She survives.

 

Mr. Pence served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He began his farming career in Swedesburg, Iowa and later farmed near LaHarpe. He and his wife also owned and operated Hometown Video Store in LaHarpe for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, yard work, and was an avid fan of “Thunder” football. He watched numerous summer baseball games from the deck of his house. He loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids and took pride in all their accomplishments. His faithful dog, Bubby, was always by his side. 

 

Survivors include his wife: Alice; two children: Ed Pence of Blandinsville, Illinois and Nancy Vogler of Roseville, Illinois; nine grandchildren: Jennifer (Michael) Skinner, Tiffany (Sarah Job) Vogler, Tyler (Blake Red Elk) Vogler, Travis Pence, Carley (Richard) Le Cuirot, Lacey Covert, Ryan (Isabella) Smith, Montana (Michael) Applegate  and Wyatt Pence; sixteen great-grandchildren: Sosie and Sloane Skinner, Cameron, O’Brien and Knox Job, Lucas Pence, Hayden, Tinley, Elliott, Rowynn and Jaxton Covert, Charlotte and Myles Le Cuirot, Ruby Smith and Ella and Emmy Applegate. Also surviving is one sister: Deb (Ronnie) Worley of Lomax; six brothers: Larry Pence of Lomax, Sheldon (Kathie) Pence, Jimmy (Edna) Pence all of Dallas City, Joe (LouAnn) Pence of Carthage, Wyverne (Nancy) Pence of Pleasant Plains, Iowa and Randy (Carol) Pence of Niota.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter: Jerri (Lynn) Smith; one son: Tim Pence; one granddaughter-in-law: Alicia Pence; two brothers: Ronnie and Roger Pence and two sisters: Gwendolyn Schiedel and Anona Widener. 

 

Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 29th at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. 

 

The funeral service for David will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Pastor Maxine Dennison officiating. Military Rites will follow at the funeral home. 

 

Cremation will be entrusted to Banks & Beals following the service. Burial will be at a later date in Crane Cemetery, near Lomax.
