Wayne R. Johnson, 65, of Basco, passed away at his home, Saturday, October 23, 2021, at 7:30 AM.

Wayne was born July 20, 1956, the son of Loren Dale and Eleanor Evelyn (Dooley) Johnson in Keokuk, Iowa.  He graduated from Warsaw High School in 1974.  He was united in marriage to Judy Merritt and they later divorced.  Wayne enjoyed rabbit and deer hunting and fishing, especially in his younger years as well as camping.   He was also the Johnson family party planner and was responsible for many family outdoor events, that often included kegs and fireworks.  He had worked for Central Stone in Colchester and the W. L. Miller Company from which he retired.  In 2002 he was united in marriage to Carla Johnson.  They loved taking road trips and were known for sitting together in the truck like high school sweethearts.  She preceded him in death in 2018.  Wayne was a good carpenter and woodworker and enjoyed vegetable gardening like all his family.  He loved mowing the yard and treated himself to a new lawn mower every year.  Wayne was very close to Carla, his family and his parents.

Wayne is survived by a son, Joel Adam Johnson, in Michigan; his mother, Eleanor of Basco; seven brothers, Dale (Marcia) Johnson of Basco, Keith (Carla) Johnson of Hamilton, Kurt (Mary) Johnson of Bowen, Monte (Jodi) Johnson of Hamilton, Kent (Carolyn) Johnson of Hamilton, Marc Johnson of Hamilton and Eric (Renee) Johnson of Warsaw; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father; wife, Carla; a sister, Tammy; and a nephew, Tyler.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until time of services at 11:30 at the funeral home.  Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or donor’s choice.  Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
