Mary Gene Lowman

Mary Gene Lowman, 93, of Hamilton, IL passed away at 6:47 AM Monday, September 6, 2021 at the Montrose Health Care Center in Montrose, IA.

 

Mary Gene was born on November 23, 1927, the daughter of Gene Scott and Lora Rickert Scott Peterson in Keokuk, IA.  On December 2, 1945, she was united in marriage to Starlie K. Lowman.  He preceded her in death in 1998.  Mary Gene was an active member of the Hamilton United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.  She was also a member of P.E.O., Entre Nous, Red Hatters by a Dam Site, Montebello Floral Society, Order of the Eastern Star and in her earlier days she was a Girl Scout leader for many years.  She was an avid reader, reading over one hundred books since the pandemic.  Mary Gene enjoyed antiquing and thrifting with family to add to her collections of fancy hats, china sets and children’s sewing machines.  Mary Gene loved to travel, she traveled around the world exploring Alaska, China, Australia and Ireland.  She loved attending tea parties with her daughters and granddaughters and collecting sea glass on the beach during her travels.

 

Mary Gene is survived by her sister, JoAnne Harding Gangel of Spring Hill, FL; her children, Ken Lowman of Hamilton, IL, Susan (Vern) Hanks of Heyworth, IL, Michael (Brenda) Lowman of Orlando, FL, Rick Lowman of Murray, KY, Theresa (Doug) O’Leary of Carlsbad, CA and David (Loretta) Lowman of Hamilton, IL; grandchildren, Annette Lippel, Lori Argillander, Heather Stevenson, Erik Hanks, Stephanie Gurba, Jennifer Hanks, Kristin Krietemeyer, Michelle Lovell, Sarah Sterne, Kimberly Harmon, Zachary O’Leary, Rickie Lowman, and Justin O’Leary; and twenty-one great grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Starlie; daughter, Kris Sterne; and grandson, Jonathan Lowman.

 

Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 PM Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, September 13, 2021 at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton with burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton.  Memorials may be made to the Hamilton Public Library.  Printy Funeral Home of Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.
