Jean R. Meyer

1946-2021

 

     Jean R. Meyer, 75 of Keokuk, IA died Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Blessing Health Keokuk in Keokuk, IA.

     She was born February 4, 1946 in Columbus, NE the daughter of Irvin and Doris Eihausen Langan. 

     Jean graduated from Platte Center High School in Platte Center, NE with the class of 1964. 

     On September 26, 1969 Jean was united in marriage to Gary Meyer in Columbus, NE.  He survives.  

     Other survivors include one son, Troy (Vanna) Meyer of Minneapolis, MN, one granddaughter, Abigail Meyer of Minneapolis and six siblings, Dale (Betty) Langan of Thornton, CO, Pat (Jo) Langan of Columbus, NE, Dave (Marlene) Langan of Norfolk, NE, Keith (Lori) Langan of Norfolk, NE, Cheri (Keith) Gottschall of Duncan Lakes, NE and Lynn Langan of Fountain, CO.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, and four siblings, Richard Langan, Bob Langan, Cindy Langan and Glen Langan.

     Jean had been employed by RW Cardella and the Humane Society, both in Keokuk.  In 2003, she began employment with the City of Keokuk at the Animal Shelter until her retirement in 2014.

     Jean was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk and The League of Women Voters where she had served two terms as State President.

     Jean was known for her service to the community.  She volunteered for the Keokuk City of Christmas.  She was a woman of many talents, but her love for animals is what she treasured most.  After her retirement, Jean volunteered at Friends of Keokuk Animal Shelter (FOKAS).  She also hosted “Pet Talk” on KOKX radio and gave important pet tips and information to the listeners. 

     A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Reverend David Brownfield, PhD officiating. 

     Visitation will be held prior to the service Saturday from 10-11 a.m., at the funeral home with family meeting with friends at that time.

     Memorials may be made to FOKAS, All Saints Catholic Church or to the Keokuk City of Christmas.
