Clifford Allen Huls

Clifford Allen Huls, 81, of Carthage, passed away at 4:10 AM Sunday morning, August 29, 2021, at the Heritage House in Carthage.

 

Clifford was born February 29, 1940, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Albert and Irene (Louring) Huls. He graduated from Carthage High School in 1958. He began his career working at Bentley Elevator for several years and farming with his dad and uncles. After leaving the elevator, he worked for 24 years for Brian Gaines Trucking in Bowen as a grain hauler and seven years for UTA in Keokuk. Clifford was a former member of the Hancock County Gun Club where he shot on trap leagues. He was a member of the NRA and the Illinois State Rifle Association. He was an avid trap shooter and enjoyed shooting for many years at various state and local gun clubs including the Grand American. He won many trophies and tournaments during his shooting years. He had also been a member of the Basco Saddle Club.

 

Clifford was united in marriage to Janice Scott in 1958. He is survived by four daughters: Cheryl (Brian) Gaines of Bowen, Teresa (Myron) Leenerts of Hamilton, Julie (Brad) Walker of Monroe City, Missouri; and Rhonda (Steve) Vinyard of Bloomfield, Iowa. They were divorced in 1991. He married Sharon Bullard in 1993. She survives. Three stepchildren survive: Shari (William) Johnson of Keokuk, Roger (David) Bullard Jr. of Evansville, Indiana; and Jefferie (Karen Chilemi) Bullard of N. Fort Meyers, Florida; nineteen grandchildren and 23+ great-grandchildren; siblings,  Vernon Huls of Wilmette, Illinois; Lorna Plowman of Columbia, Missouri and Dennis Huls of Carthage; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lois, in infancy; a stepdaughter, Mitzi Jane Bullard in infancy; and a great granddaughter, Maggie Homan, in infancy.

 

Funeral services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Basco on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at 10:00 AM with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be held Wednesday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage from 3:00 – 8:00 PM with family meeting friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
