Norman Jurgens

Norman Jurgens, 95, formerly of Carthage, passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 18, 2021, at Keystone Assisted Living in Land O’Lakes, Florida. 

 

Norman was born July 30, 1926, in Coatsburg, Illinois, the son of Henry and Verna (Pickens) Jurgens, confirmed April 2, 1939, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Coatsburg and baptized November 26, 1926.  He attended grade school in Coatsburg and then attended Maplewood High School in Camp Point, Illinois, graduating in 1944.  Norman served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during WWII from 1944 – 1947.  On June 18, 1949, he was united in marriage to Joyce Collard at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Coatsburg.

 

Norman worked for International Harvester Company from 1949 – 1965 in various cities in Iowa and Peoria, Illinois.  In 1965 he moved to Carthage and purchased C.H. Robnett International dealership.  Norman owned and operated Robnett-Jurgens International for 23 years, retiring in 1988.  Norman served in many capacities at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage and as a volunteer at Memorial Hospital in Carthage and also CLASP, the children’s after school program at Trinity Lutheran Church.  Norman was an avid golfer, card player, fisherman, and life-long Cubs fan. 

 

Norman is survived by two daughters, Debbi (Bill) Cummens of Lockport, Illinois and Denise Fincher of Wesley Chapel, Florida; a son, Michael (Susan) Jurgens of Monmouth, Illinois; grandchildren, Cory Cummens, Megan Cummens, Nicole (Scott) Nonnemaker, Courtney (Lou) Ippolito, Christi Jo (Jason) Spanhook, Katie Jurgens, and Kathy (Gino) Infusino; great grandchildren, Dylan Cummens, Carter Cummens, Chase  Cummens, Brianna Vazquez, Hailey Vazquez, Alina Vazquez, Andrew Ippolito, Dominic Ippolito, Ellie Spanhook, Emmalyn Spanhook, Giacomino Infusino, and Vincenzo Infusino; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Norman’s wife, Joyce, passed away as well as one grandson, Jon Hunter; a sister, Dorothy Longlett; and a brother, Ed Jurgens.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage will burial to follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage with full military rites provided by the United States Navy Honor Guard and Hancock County Honor Guard.  Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 AM until time of services at the church at 11:00 AM.  Memorials may be directed to the Trinity Lutheran Endowment Fund or Great River Honor Flight.  Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
