Carmelitta "Carm" Ann Horton

Carmelitta "Carm" Ann Horton, 84, formerly of Niota, passed away Saturday, June 19. 

 

Carm, born September 30, 1936 in Union County, Iowa, was the daughter of Urban and Dorothy (Johnston) Baker.  She graduated from Creston High School, Creston, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Edward Lewis Horton in Creston on September 5, 1955. He preceded her in death 2009. Carm whose passion was raising her seven children managed to fit in a career – which included bookkeeper, accountant, Farm manager, Bank officer, Branch manager, Insurance sales - to name just a few, retiring 1994.  After retirement she was active in the community thru Home Extension, holding office of Treasurer for Pontoosuc township, and hosting the local Pitch club. She was a devoute Catholic, and parishioner of Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Nauvoo. She also participated in Women's Club and Toatmasters. Carm, being an active mother, served as 4-H Leader, Cub Scout Leader, as well as on the PTOs, Drama Clubs, and Choral groups.

 

Carmelitta is survived by her children: Martha Frank of Des Moines, Iowa; Carol Horton of Des Moines, Iowa; Philip Horton of Salida, Colorado; James (Lori) Horton of McKinney, Texas; Paul (Tara) Horton of Anchorage, Alaska; Matthew (Angela) Horton of Muscatine, Iowa; and Sarah (David) Miller of North Liberty, Iowa – grandchildren: Colleen Frank, Shay Altshue, Zerron Horton, Christopher Frank, Karl Frank, Kevin Frank, Kathryn Frank, Lexis Miller, Beau Miller, Brooklyn Horton, James Horton, Dallas Miller, Joseph Horton & Grace Horton - great grandchild Scott Frank; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

She has been preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward; and her brother, Damian Baker.

 

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday morning, June 24, 2021, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Nauvoo with burial to follow in the Nauvoo City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton with a Rosary at 7:30 PM at the funeral home.  Printy Funeral Home of Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.  The family requests that memorials be made to 

1.  St. Peter’s and Paul Church or

2.  Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation
