Elsie May Griswold, 91, of Nauvoo, Illinois, passed away at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at her home.

Elsie was born on April 28, 1929 in Woodville Township, Illinois, the daughter of Othel and Velma (McAdams) Early. She married Harold L. Griswold, they later divorced.

The highlight of Elsie’s life was owning and operating her own restaurant, Elsie’s Place, in Mount Dora, Florida. She moved from Florida to Ogden, Iowa, where she resided for ten years. She most recently lived with her daughter in Nauvoo. She was a member of the Ogden United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie Johnson of Nauvoo and Vicki Swansferger of Golden, Colorado; three grandchildren, Oscar Swansferger Jr., and Phillip and Bradley Caruso; three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Debbie Griswold; two brothers, Curtis and Lindall Early and one sister, Rosalee Johnson.

Cremation has been entrusted to Schmitz-Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Nauvoo.
