Stephen “Steve” Carroll Austin, 72, of Warsaw, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Blessing Hospital in Keokuk, Iowa.
Steve was born on July 24, 1949, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Jack Leroy and Esta Marian (Foley) Austin. He graduated from Warsaw High School in 1967, and in 1971 he graduated with his teaching degree from Western Illinois University in Macomb. On April 10, 1972, he was united in marriage to Vera Bowen in Keokuk, Iowa. She survives.
Steve was a high school teacher in Keokuk for many years and was a substitute teacher for many years after retirement. He was a member of the Warsaw Library Board and the Warsaw Historical Society. In his free time, he enjoyed walking, reading and collecting Indian artifacts. He was an avid traveler, and especially enjoyed journeying out West. Steve proudly served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged.
Steve is survived by his wife Vera Austin of Warsaw; his son Cody (Ashley) Austin of Anchorage, Alaska; his daughter Angella (Dan) Moorehouse of Warsaw; four grandchildren: Cole, Kinley and Duke Austin and Zed Moorehouse; two brothers: Mike (Marie) Austin and Jeff (Marilyn) Austin, both of Warsaw; his dog Panzer; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held in June.
