David James Whitcomb, 66, of Burnside, passed away, Sunday, January 16, 2022, at his home.
David was born March 16, 1955, the son of James Nelson and Carol Mae (Bolton) Whitcomb in Carthage, Illinois. He graduated from Nauvoo-Colusa High School in 1973 and went on to attend Spoon River College. On December 28, 1993, he was united in marriage to Glenda Climer in Colusa. She survives. David was a life-long farmer and enjoyed camping, mushroom hunting and classic rock music. He was an avid University of Illinois basketball fan. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. David was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
David is survived by his wife, Glenda, of Burnside; daughter, Amanda (Tess O’Brien) Whitcomb of Indianapolis, Indiana; step-children, Jackie (Travis) Conover of Keokuk, Eric (Cindy) Greer of Niota, and Ashley (Aaron Wade) Reidner of Fort Madison; grandchildren, Drew and Piper Conover, Krisama and Kadeeyn Greer, and Eliana Wade; his parents, Jim and Carol Whitcomb of Burnside; siblings, John (Mary) Whitcomb of Ft. Madison, Robert Whitcomb of Mt. Pleasant, Paul Whitcomb of Burnside and Howard (Carole) Whitcomb of Marshalltown.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James N. Whitcomb, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday morning, January 22, 2022, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM Friday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage. Memorials may be directed to the Shriner’s Hospital. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
