Arygle Lowell Webster

Arygle Lowell Webster, 102, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at the Illinois Veteran’s Home in Quincy.

Arygle was born November 21, 1918, near Sutter, Illinois, the son of Ralph and Maude (Fryer) Webster.  He attended school in Hamilton, Illinois.  He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII on the USS Nelson and USS Beatty from 1941 until his Honorable Discharge in 1947.  He then worked at International Harvester in Libertyville, Illinois for twenty-six years retiring at the age of fifty-eight and living in many places throughout the United States.  Immediately following his retirement he traveled through Europe for a month.  He then came back to Hancock County in 1986 and settled in Carthage living with his sister-in-law, Maxine Webster.  After the passing of Maxine in 2012 he made his residence with Pat until 2018. He was a member of the Carthage Eagle’s Club.  In 2011 he went on the WWII Great River Honor Flight to Washington, DC with his niece, Pat Schurtz, serving as his Guardian.  It was a trip he enjoyed very much.  Arygle always enjoyed keeping busy and for many years he worked with stained glass making lamps, lighted little building and many other items.  He helped Maxine and Pat with both inside and outside work.  He became a resident at the Illinois Veteran’s Home on September 20, 2018.  He was very much loved by the staff and he loved all the attention they gave him.  He remained very active until the very end.  The obituary picture above was taken on his 102nd birthday and still looking good.  For his age he was a very healthy and active man.  He was of the Methodist faith.

Arygle is survived by three nieces, Patricia Allen Schurtz of Carthage, Shirley Talbot of Ft. Madison, Iowa and Diana (Phil) Walters of Covington, Indiana; a nephew, Jerry (Wanda) Harshabarger of New Ross, Indiana; a step-son, Michael Koob of Lake Forest, Illinois and one step-daughter, Kathy (Charles) McInness of Point Roberts, Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wayne and Lester Webster; one sister, Wilta Harshbarger; and a very special sister-in-law, Maxine Webster.

Graveside services will be held at a later date at Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage with military rites by the United States Navy and Hancock County Honor Guard.  Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church in Carthage or H.U.G.S.  Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements
