Hollis "Dean" Printy

Hollis “Dean” Printy, 74, of Hamilton, formerly of Elvaston, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2020, at his home in Hamilton. 

 

Dean was born on December 5, 1945, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of William “Bill” and Velma Imogene (Tripp) Printy. He attended Hamilton High School, graduating in 1964. On August 27, 1966, he was united in marriage to Sandra “Sandy” Phillips at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hamilton. She survives. 

 

A lifelong resident of Hancock County, Dean was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He spent most of his working career employed with the telephone company, retiring in 2007 after 43 years of service. Dean traveled around the country attending training for his work, and his love of traveling continued throughout his life. His family has many fond memories of traveling with him around the Midwest to flea markets and antique sales. Dean was an avid watch and gun collector and enjoyed sharing those passions with his grandchildren. He was also a member of the Carthage VFW, the NRA and the Hancock County Gun Club, where he shot trap for many years. He was also instrumental in supporting the behavioral school in Ferris and the GTE Track and Field Days. In his free time, Dean enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Dean proudly served his country in the United States Army and served in the infantry in the Vietnam War. He earned several badges and medals, including the Combat Infantry Badge, and was honorably discharged in 1969. Dean loved his family deeply, especially his grandchildren. 

 

Dean is survived by his wife Sandy Printy of Hamilton; his son Jim (Melissa) Printy of Hamilton; two daughters: Tracy (Scott) Miller of Chillicothe, Missouri , and Amy (Donald) Schneider of Connersville, Indiana;  his brother Jim (Geraldine) Printy of Hamilton; sixteen grandchildren: Evan (Kate) Printy, William (Kelsey) Printy, Elaine Printy, Philip Printy, Patrick Printy, Faith Printy, Emma Printy, Tessa Printy, Brock and Rylee Miller, Cameron (Lauren) James, Courtney James, Carter James, Baylee Schneider, Kara Schneider and Gavin Schneider; and three great-grandchildren: Ellie, Nora and Addy Mae Printy. Other survivors include a niece, nephew and many cousins. 

 

Dean is preceded in death by his parents.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Saturday, October 3, 2020, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hamilton, with burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton. Military honors at the graveside will be rendered by the United States Army and the Hancock County Honor Guard. Due to Covid-19, masks and social distancing are encouraged and numbers may be limited. Visitation will be held on Friday from 3 to 7 pm at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton. A Rosary service will be held at the funeral home at 7 PM directly following the visitation. 

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hamilton.
